AH HOOD BURGER STALL
Growing up in the US, I’ve been accustomed with the ‘build your own burger’ concept, which gave me the option to put whatever condiments I wanted inside my beloved sandwich. The intention was good, and with usually acceptable results, but ultimately I still felt limited to the hamburger’s standard uniform of one beef patty and two bread buns. You can imagine my interest upon hearing about a new spin on this concept during a recent visit to the Ramada Hotel Singapore to test out the hotel’s updated dining offer, set to debut this upcoming National Day at the Ramada Hotel Restaurant.
To be featured on the restaurant’s high tea buffet, the Ramada Asian Burger has a local, more Asian-centric spin for a burger in a DIY station setting, featuring a steamed leaf bun substituting for the traditional bread bun, and a selection of filling options, ranging from sweet to spicy. The fillings included satay chicken, minced pork with spicy bean sauce, curry potato, minced char siew, mice pork roll, chicken floss, and otak otak. I suggest taking a serving of each filling and lay them individual across your plate to sample. I found the minced pork with the spicy bean sauce, albeit the spiciest of the fillings, to be my preference. The other filings were a bit too sweet or bland for my liking. The size of the burger is a bit small, so be prepared to eat more than just one or two.
This was not the typical burger layout I was used to seeing during summer cookouts back home, but needless to say, the Ramada Asian Burger is a nice effort indeed by the Ramada Hotel Restaurant to create a new alternative on something rather common. If you’re willing to explore beyond your typical idea of a hamburger for something a bit more East meets West, I recommend giving this burger stall a try.
