WHEN SCENTS AND FLAVOURS MIX : THE UNEXPECTED AT L’OCCITANE
What happened when the Founder of L’Occitane invited his friend, a renowned pastry chef, to compose a collection of scents?
An unexpected encounter indeed but, the result is a beautifully crafted collection of fragrances which both compliment and contrast perfectly – we can now enjoy the fragrance of the Mediterranean along with the tastes of our favourite part of France.
Olivier Baussan, founder of L’Occitane, creates designs for the collections of the brand he established in 1976 and, when he invited his friend, Pierre Hermé, renowned pastry chef to ‘bake’ up these fragrances (he said) “You create fragrances and flavours, I create shape and colour…”
For this collection, Olivier Baussan designed not just the (EDT) bottle, but also the box. With its lift-off-lid, cylindrical form and aromatic colours, it reminds us as much of a hot box as it does the shape of a cake.
Pierre Hermé began his career at the age of just 14, working for Gaston Lenôtre. He has revolutionised deep-seated traditions and is continually inventing new flavours. He, not only has a memory for flavours, but also for scents. This pastry chef is inspired by “ingredients that awaken desires, raw materials that conjure up pleasures”.
